Title: Hawking radiation and semiclassical singularities inside black holes
Abstract: Vacuum models of rotating or charged black holes possess two horizons, the outer "event horizon" that marks the boundary of causality for the outside universe, and the inner "Cauchy horizon" that marks the boundary of determinism since it hides a time-like singularity within. Classically, Cauchy horizons are thought to cause a violent blueshift instability known as mass inflation, leading to the formation of either a space-like or light-like singularity. In this talk we will explore how semiclassical effects modify this picture, with a focus on the perception of Hawking radiation by a freely falling observer, so that we can come to a better understanding of how black hole interiors interact with quantum fields.
